State of Indiana v. DW

Abels Law Office represented a client charged with drug possession as a result of an unlawful traffic stop in Morgan County. Attorney Matt Abels conducted depositions and then filed a motion to suppress. The judge granted the motion to suppress, resulting in all evidence obtained from the traffic stop being excluded and ultimately all charges against the defendant being dismissed.

State of Indiana v. KM

Mr. Abels represented a client charged with gun possession in Marion County. He helped the client obtained alternative misdemeanor sentencing for a previous unrelated case. He then filed to dismiss the gun possession charges, because the client no longer had a felony conviction. The trial court judge disagreed with our interpretation of the law but he took the case up on appeal and the appellate court agreed with his interpretation of the law. On remand, the trial court judge had to grant the motion to dismiss.

State of Indiana v. LC

Client was found not guilty of all criminal charges by a jury in Marion County. On the morning of trial, the state sought to amend drug dealing charges, because they had charged the crimes under the incorrect portion of the criminal statute. Mr. Abels objected to the amendment. The judge agreed with him and denied the state’s request to amend the charges, resulting in the state dismissing the drug dealing charges prior to trial. Mr. Abels then proceeded to trial on the drug and gun possession charges and obtained not guilty verdicts on all charges with the jury deliberating for less than 15 minutes.

State of Indiana v. MS

Attorney Matthew Abels represented MS in Boone County on Level 5 felony intimidation charges involving a deadly weapon. Based on his knowledge of the facts of the case and his experience with the trial court judge, Mr. Abels recommended the client waive his right to a jury trial and proceed to trial in front of the judge. The trial court judge found the client not guilty of all charges except for misdemeanor driving while suspended charges that were not in dispute.
